Who is Lisa Cheng?

What I'm Building Now

I'm the cofounder and CEO of Arithmancy, an embodied AI company solving the sim-to-real gap in robotics. Robots trained in simulation learn from perfect information — the simulator tells the policy exactly where every object is. Then they get deployed into real kitchens and warehouses where they have to act on whatever their sensors can reconstruct, which is never perfect. They train on certainty and perform on guesswork. We generate physics-grounded training data that exposes robot policies to realistic perception error before deployment, so the failures happen in simulation — where they're cheap — instead of in someone's home. I found my co-founder, Mustafa Khan, by cold-DMing him on Twitter. Three months later we had a pipeline running on a real robotic arm.

My journey into tech

In 2001 I was building MySpace pages and learning HTML to create websites. In 2007 I thought I wanted to be a lawyer and randomly wrote the LSAT. In 2009 I was recruited to join a Fortune 500 company as a Software Sales Executive. In 2013 I read the Bitcoin whitepaper and immediately found a bounty on bitcointalk, after completing it I was hired at the 1st company to do an ICO. Read the rest of my story here.

I have also released a Statement and FAQ page here.

In 2024 I was hired an an AI company, and in 2026 I cofounded Arithmancy.
